Australia’s gambling regulator ACMA is ramping up its war on illegal online gambling — and this time, social media influencers and content creators are directly in the crosshairs.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority has already blocked more than 1,564 unlicensed gambling websites offering online casinos and sports betting to Australian players. Now, the regulator is turning its attention to those who help promote these blocked sites on social media.

Influencers Under Investigation

Several investigations are underway into streamers and online personalities suspected of breaching Australia’s Interactive Gambling Act. While ACMA hasn’t publicly named anyone, media reports indicate that several Australian influencers are currently under scrutiny.

Many of the gambling sites allegedly promoted by these creators have already been blocked by internet service providers at ACMA’s direction.

Warnings Sent to Content Creators

ACMA has confirmed it is actively contacting influencers to warn them about the serious legal risks involved. Even indirect promotion — such as sharing links or affiliate content — can lead to enforcement action.

Heavy Penalties

The regulator has made the consequences very clear:

Individuals face fines of up to A$59,400

Those facilitating access to illegal platforms risk penalties of up to A$2.4 million

What This Means for Australian Players

This latest crackdown shows that accessing online casinos through social media promotions is becoming increasingly unreliable — many of these platforms are already blocked or operating in unstable conditions for Australian users.

Instead of following influencer links, it makes far more sense to stick with established, well-reviewed platforms. On our site, we regularly update a list of trusted online casinos for Australian players, focusing on those with stable access, real payouts, and consistent player feedback — not just aggressive promotion.

This latest crackdown sends a strong message: accessing illegal gambling sites through social media promotions is becoming increasingly risky and difficult. With ACMA working alongside internet providers and international authorities, unregulated operators are finding it harder to reach Australian players.

For safer and more reliable gameplay, Australian players are encouraged to stick with licensed and properly regulated online casinos.
